Business at Daytona Beach International
Airport is booming. The community will soon benefit from numerous
announcements by the airport’s carriers as they expand services.
Congressman John Mica announced on December 3 that US Airways is
returning to Daytona Beach. US Airways will offer daily nonstop service
to Charlotte beginning Feb. 1 with connecting service to dozens of
cities.
AirTran announced nonstop daily service
to New York’s LaGuardia Airport to begin Feb. 14. Delta Air Lines
announced in late 2007 its new daily nonstop service to LaGuardia
Airport that begins the same day. AirTran also is resuming its seasonal
Baltimore service Feb. 9 which will operate on weekends.
Additionally, Continental Airlines
upgraded equipment from two 50-passenger regional jets to larger Boeing
737 aircraft in April. And, New Smyrna Beach-based Vintage Props & Jets
has added nonstop service to Tallahassee to Daytona Beach International
Airport.
“This past year was phenomenal for our
airport, and our passengers are the direct beneficiaries of all the
exciting changes,” said Dennis McGee, DBIA Director of Aviation. “With
four major carriers now, we are in a great position to offer competitive
fares, and continue to be a leader in customer service and convenience.
We have an exciting year ahead of us in 2008.”
