DBIA AirTravel Guide

When traveling by the great American "skyway" it is important to observe the new procedures that have been implemented in airports throughout the nation. The Daytona Beach International Airport has developed the DBIA AirTravel Guide to provide its passengers with a step by step look at what to expect and how to prepare for air travel. It is equally as important to remember that everything you see, is for your benefit!

Parking
Short term parking is currently unavailable due to orange alert. For convenience DBIA offers courtesy shuttle service to the parking lot.

Check-in and Checked Baggage
At the Daytona Beach International Airport, please arrive to check in at least one hour to one and one half hours before flight time. In order to comply with new federal security regulations, current Airline policy requires passengers to complete the bag check-in procedure for non carry-on baggage no later than 30 minutes prior to departure time. It is recommended that passengers plan to arrive at the Airport one and one half hours before departure time, but no later than one hour before departure time to comply with this requirement.. Your airline agent will ask you a series of questions regarding your travel including ‘has anyone unknown to you asked you to carry anything on board and have your bags been in your possession since you packed them’. Your agent will also ask you if you would like to have an emergency contact name listed in the case of an emergency. For your benefit, please have someone picked out ahead of time and give the agent your contact’s name and phone number. If you have anything that could be used as a weapon it must be removed from your carry on bag and placed in your checked luggage.

Carry-on Bags
Bring only necessary items on board with you. The FAA now requires that passengers bring only one carry on bag. In addition to the carry-on, passengers may also bring their purse or small briefcase. Anything that could be used as a weapon will be removed from your carry-on bag. Items of concern include such items as scissors, knives, knitting needles, crochet hooks, lipstick/eyeliner sharpeners, plastic silverware, nail clippers with the file, bottle openers, cork screws, tweezers, large safety pins, nail files, box cutters, razors. The list is potentially endless and it would be impossible to include everything, so use your best judgment.

Electronic Ticketing
Electronic ticketing is available. If you have only your one carry on bag, you may check in at the gate. All you need is your identification and your passenger ticket receipt or confirmation. Show this at the security checkpoint and you will be allowed to be screened through the security checkpoint. If you do not have your passenger ticket receipt, however, you will be directed back to the ticket counter.

Children Traveling Alone and Passengers With Disabilities
Children may travel alone with their parent’s or guardian’s permission. You must check-in with your child at the ticket counter. At that time your airline agent will issue you, the parent or guardian, validation to assist your child to the gate. Only one parent is allowed to walk to the gate with the child.

Any passenger that is disabled and requires assistance may have one person assist them to the gate. An agent at the ticket counter must approve it prior to entering the security checkpoint. These passengers should check in at the ticket counter where the person assisting the passenger will be issued a validation slip which will allow entry into the gate area. Passengers that are disabled and require use of a wheel chair need to allow a little extra time for inspection at the security checkpoint.

You are now ready to board!
The process is thorough but efficient. Traveling through an airport like the Daytona Beach International Airport will decrease your time at check in and provide a much less stressful travel experience. There are added procedures but much shorter lines and less hassle. During our research of the new procedures, it took our team less than 30 minutes to get to the gate from the time we parked, checked in at the ticket counter and went through security. Enjoy your trip!
