Delta Connection
to upgrade DBIA regional jet service
Delta Airlines announced plans to
introduce new 70-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jet service to Daytona
Beach International Airport on May 1. Daytona Beach was one of nine cities
selected for the new, larger aircraft "to offer more seats in some of
our fastest-growing markets," according to Fred Buttrell, president
and CEO, Delta Connection, Inc.
"The CRJ-700 service will
depart Daytona Beach at 3:40 p.m. daily, beginning May 1, replacing a
50-passenger CRJ-200," said DBIA Director of Aviation Dennis McGee.
"With 20 additional inbound and outbound seats a day, Delta’s
inbound and outbound inventory will increase by 14,600 seats."
The new jet, manufactured by
Bombardier Aerospace of Canada, is an enhanced version of the popular
50-seat CRJ-series aircraft used by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic
Southeast Airlines on three daily flights into DBIA.
"Daytona Beach passengers
will enjoy the airplane’s quiet, comfortable cabin," said McGee.
The CRJ-700s feature all-leather interiors and a comfortable two-by-two
seating arrangement in which there are no middle seats. The floor has been
lowered by one inch to increase head and should room; the windows have
been raised almost five inches for easier viewing; and the overhead bins
have been redesigned to provide a wider, more spacious aisles.
Atlanta-based Delta Connection
carrier Atlanta Southeast Airlines will receive the Delta Connection'’
first of 57 CRJ-700 aircraft January 29 at Bombardier Aerospace in
Montreal, Canada. Delta Connection carriers operate more than 200 regional
jets throughout North America. For more information, please contact Delta
