Traffic declines in
December at Daytona Beach International Airport
Total passenger traffic at Daytona
Beach International Airport (DBIA) decreased 34 percent in December 2008
compared with December 2007.
During December, 27,043 passengers arrived and departed through DBIA,
compared with 41,084 in December 2007. For the 12-month period ending
Dec. 31, 594,871 passengers traveled through the county-operated
airport, compared with 705,475 travelers in 2007 and representing a
16-percent decrease.
According to airport officials, December’s traffic decrease reflected
the loss of low-fare carrier AirTran Airways in April combined with the
ongoing economic decline that’s reducing demand for air transportation
in most markets throughout the United States.
“Passenger traffic declines now are being experienced at many airports
in Florida and throughout the country,” said Airport Director Dennis
McGee. “We remain hopeful that with a turnaround of the economy,
passenger traffic can resume an upward trend in 2009.”
